Jarjeyes ailesinin altıncı kız çocuğu dünyaya geldiğinde, General Jarjeyes hiç oğlan çocuğu olmamasına kızarak yeni doğan kızını bir oğlan çocuğu gibi yetiştirmeye karar verir.
Yıllar sonra Avusturya prensesi Marie-Antoinette Fransa'ya gelin gelir. Oscar, babasının ısrarları yüzünden genç prensesin önce koruması olacak sonra kraliyet muhafızlığa getirtilecektir.
